An old joke, at Devonport

Well, probably not all that old, compared with some of the stuff you'll find on this blog. But -- it's been around for a while.

According to this site, these plaques have been around in America since the 1980s at least. You can buy them online still. Somehow, North Shore City have decided to keep this by the Devonport foreshore, beside the footpath leasding to the wharf. For what reason, I don't know at this stage. Perhaps a reader could shed some light on this. Are there any in Australia?

  1. According to this book here there's at least 1 place in Oz with that sign.
There's also an odd one in Armadale reading something like "The foundation of this stone stopped the debate and let things get done" or some such (will trot down to snap it soon ;)

  2. Cheers, Jayne. Thought there'd be at least one in Aussie.

  3. I've not heard of them here. Jayne, you are not referring to footpath paver that puts a curse on anyone who disturbs it? I think it was put there by a chemist shop owner who absolutely fed up with with the pavement and the road being dug up by different services. The shop now sells carpet rugs.

  6. It is my understanding that the person responsible for installing and creating this plaque is none other than Simon Gundry a local Devonport identity and it has been there for well over 20 years.
